FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some frequently asked questions about the program with answers that you may find helpful:
Q. How do I get into inpatient rehabilitation at St. Vincent’s?
A. Please see our web pages on admission criteria for acute rehabilitation at St. Vincent’s 10 East.
Q. What do I wear for therapy?
A. Choosing to wear your most comfortable clothing is best.
Q. How much therapy will I get?
A. All St. Vincent’s acute rehabilitation patients receive at least three hours of therapy a day, or 15 hours in a seven-day period, as their condition and tolerance allows. The sessions are spread across our three therapy disciplines.
Q. How is my discharge date decided?
A. Each patient presents with individual impairments, functional limitations, and discharge goals. As a result, each patient’s length of stay is determined on an individual basis. Team conferences are held weekly to discuss your progress and your individual length of stay will be discussed during your conference.
Q. What is a typical day in Acute Rehabilitation like?
A. Your schedule will be generally as follows:
Each day will begin with the nurse, certified nursing assistant (CAN) and/or your therapist helping you get washed and dressed into your own clothing. The CNA will monitor your vital signs and the nurse will administer your medications. Breakfast will be served at 8 p.m. We prefer that patients get out of bed for all three meals. The therapy schedule will be posted for the day on the schedule board located at the nurse’s station. Therapy sessions are held in the Rehab Gym. Therapies will be scheduled to each patient’s individual needs and will allow for adequate rest breaks.
Q. What are the visiting hours?
A. 10 East visiting hours are the same as the hospital: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. However, in order to prevent scheduling conflict with therapies, it is best to schedule visitors after 4 p.m.
Q. Are visitors limited to my room?
A. You are welcome to have company in your room, in the Day Room and, with the nurse’s permission (medical clearance), in the hospital lobby or outside.
