Patient Rights and Responsibilities
At St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport CT, we strive to ensure the privacy of our patients and to maintain the confidentiality their information and medical records at all times.
St. Vincent’s, like all accredited healthcare institutions, follows a federal law called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This law, enforced by U.S. Congress, is designed to protect the privacy and confidentiality of patient information.
A copy of the Rights and Responsibilities of Patients and Medical Staff document is given to each patient at the time of admission for inpatient services and at initial registration for outpatient and ambulatory services. The Rights and Responsibilities document is posted on the patient care units and can be obtained upon request from the Patient Access Office (203) 576-5759.
