Vincent C. Caponi
President and CEO, St. Vincent’s Medical Center
Vince Caponi has enjoyed a long and successful career with Ascension beginning in 1983. He most recently served as interim Wisconsin Ministry Market Executive for Ascension Health. Earlier he led Ascension's St. Vincent in Indianapolis from 1998 to 2013, and later assumed the position of Executive Board Chair for the Central Indiana health system. He also served as Executive Board Chair of Ascension Texas, and he continues to serve in a consultative role to Health City Cayman Islands (HCCI), Ascension’s partnership with Narayana Health of India to provide care for underserved populations in the Caribbean.
Under Caponi’s leadership, St. Vincent grew from an Indianapolis campus with a tertiary hospital to a statewide network with hospitals serving many rural areas. His legacy includes developing a high-quality healthcare system, building on local resources and empowering local capabilities to deliver high-quality, affordable healthcare throughout Central Indiana. St. Vincent became one of the state’s largest healthcare employers, and Caponi led efforts to develop innovative healthcare solutions for employers and commercial markets across the state.
Before joining St. Vincent in Indiana he served as president and CEO of Ascension’s St. Vincent's Birmingham in Alabama. Earlier in his career, Vince served as administrator, president and CEO of Ascension’s St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta, Georgia; CEO of United Memorial Hospital in Greenville, Michigan; and assistant administrator of The Memorial Hospital in Owosso, Michigan.
Vince is a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, and he has a master’s degree in health care administration from Central Michigan University. He also received an honorary doctorate in Business Administration from Marian University. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a former Regent for the state of Alabama.
