Yankee Legend Bucky Dent to Headline Gala Benefitting First Responders, EMS, and Their Families Battling Cancer

January 11, 2016

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut – St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound will host its Annual Sports Gala and Auction benefitting Connecticut police, fire, and correction officers, EMS personnel, public safety dispatchers, and their families battling cancer. Legendary New York Yankee Bucky Dent will be the guest speaker at the event, on February 4, 2016 at Anthony’s Ocean View, New Haven, CT. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut is the title sponsor of this event.

"Bucky" Dent is a former American Major League Baseball player and manager who earned two World Series rings as the starting shortstop for the New York Yankees in 1977 and 1978. He was voted the World Series MVP in 1978 and is most famous for his home run in a tie-breaker game against the Boston Red Sox at the end of the 1978 season.

All donations will be used to fund programs to support first responders throughout Connecticut. Courageous first responders put themselves in harm’s way to protect and keep Connecticut residents safe. The funds raised will provide financial support for these heroes so they may worry less about utility bills, mortgage, car insurance, and other expenses and concentrate on recovering should they have to battle cancer.

Ticket donations are $100 each. Table hosts (ten seats) are available for $1,000. For more information, contact St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation at (203) 382-2301 or visit https://SwimAcrossTheSound.org/sports2016.
