Plan Your Visit

St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport CT

Hospital stays can be pre-planned or sudden. Either way, there are a few pieces of information to know which can help make your stay a better experience for you and your family.

  • Pack lightly:
You will be provided clothing to wear during your stay for medical purposes. Please bring only undergarments for the duration of your stay and something comfortable to wear home.
  • Leave Valuables at Home:
Try and bring with you only what is necessary including license, insurance card, essential eye care and dental hygiene materials (please leave dentures at home), cell phone, etc.
  • Parking:
Parking is located in the parking garage directly in front of the Medical Center.
  • Wireless Internet:
    WIFI is available.
  • Meals:
Taste of Excellence Room Service. To place orders for meals, simply dial ext. 5300 from your room phone between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
  • Patient Saftey:
Our staff follows national and state safety protocols and also adheres to guidelines unique to the Medical Center. We go above and beyond standard policies, because your safety is our number one priority. Please refer to our Patient Safety Guide located in your room at the time of admission for information on how you can work with the staff to be your personal safety advocate. The Patient Safety Guide includes information on initiatives such as the Ruby Slippers Fall Prevention and SmartMoves  safe lifting programs.
  • Identify A Care Partner:
For all patients, it is beneficial to the patient, family and staff if you can identify a Care Partner to serve as the primary contact for communication and decision-making. This individual will have greater access to information on your progress, and will partner with staff members and physicians to ensure the most effective plan of care. Care Partners receive free parking and discounts at our coffee shop and cafeteria throughout their loved-one's stay. Please ask your nurse for more information.
  • Visitor Guidelines:
The Medical Center has generous visiting hours but asks guests to understand that some patients, given their medical conditions, may require more rest than others. For all patients except ICU and maternity, visiting hours are 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM.
  • Family Birthing Center (Maternity):
In the Family Birthing Center, we welcome families, siblings and friends to visit you and your newest family member. Fathers and partners enjoy 24-hour visitation. We will accommodate all other visitors, while respecting mother’s needs for rest and privacy.
  • Nursery Visitation:
Our Special Care Nursery visitation is open to parents and grandparents 24/7, while siblings, if well, and with proper immunization records, may visit their new sister or brother with their parents at their discretion.
  • Discharge:
Each patient has a case manager and a social worker available to assist with discharge needs. Our goal is to have you discharged by 11am on your scheduled day. The case manager, who is a registered nurse, and the social worker will collaborate to determine the safest and most appropriate discharge plan for you, identify resources and offer support. To contact the case manager or social worker, you may ask your nurse or leave a message at ext. 5608.
