Sister Louise Gallahue, D.C., has been named Chairperson of the Board of St. Vincent's Health Services. The announcement was made by The Daughters of Charity Albany Province and Ascension Health on February 15, 2005.
Sister Louise has long been part of the St. Vincent's family, holding many posts in the St. Vincent's system including staff nurse, director and board member. She is also Chair of the Board of Hall-Brooke Behavioral Health Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of St. Vincent's. An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Sister holds Board Certification through the American Nurses Association and is licensed in the State of CT as an A.P.R.N. and R.N.
Sister Louise first came to St. Vincent's in 1979, and served as Nursing Supervisor in the Family Health Center until 1983. In 1985, Sister served as Staff Nurse in the Psychiatric Unit. She returned to St. Vincent's in September 2002 to serve at Hall-Brooke Behavioral Health Services as Clinical and Community Outreach Coordinator for Homestead Residential Services. She became the Director of Homestead the following year.
Sister Louise served on many hospital boards including St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, New York, Carney Hospital, Boston, MA, and Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, N.Y. She also served as a member of the Sponsors Council of Ascension Health and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Daughters of Charity National Health System. As Visitatrix (Provincial) from 1993-2002, Sister Louise was responsible for the administration of the Daughters of Charity Northeast Province that included over 200 sisters serving in New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and the Province of Quebec.
A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Sister Louise graduated from Boston College School of Nursing, BSN, and Columbia University, NY, MSN in Psychiatric/ Community Mental Health Nursing.
She entered the Community of The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in 1966, after serving in the Boston College Lay Volunteer Program. She began her work as a nurse at Boston City Hospital, where she served as Staff Nurse on the medical unit.
St. Vincent's is an affiliate member of New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System, and has academic teaching affiliations with the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and with New York Medical College. It is owned by Ascension Health, the nation's largest Catholic healthcare system and third largest not-for-profit healthcare system.
