BRIDGEPORT, CT, March 14, 2005 - St. Vincent's Medical Center is presenting a new program, On The Move Orthopaedic Lectures, a series of free talks for the general public focusing on orthopaedic topics including exercise, medication therapies and surgical options. The first in the series, “Sports Medicine & Shoulder Injuries,” will take place on Thursday, March 24 from 6:30-8pm at the Burroughs Community Center, 2470 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport.
According to Dale Danowski, RN, MBA, Vice President of Patient Care Services at St. Vincent's, “St. Vincent's is very excited to bring this new series of talks to area towns, and it is part of our effort to bring important health information to the community. This new lecture series will focus on how people can improve their quality of life through accurate diagnosis of orthopaedic problems, through determining the value and limits of medications and exercise, and considering what treatments and surgical options are most appropriate and beneficial,” Danowski said.
Upcoming lectures will be “Joint Replacement” with Peter Boone, MD, on April 27 from 11am-12:30pm at the Jewish Community Center on Park Avenue in Bridgeport, and “Back Pain: Advances in Surgery” in May with speaker, location and time to be announced.
The On The Move Orthopaedic Lecture Series is part of St. Vincent's program of comprehensive orthopaedic services, including its innovative Joint Camp, a kind of “boot camp” which takes patients from pre-operative education and physical strengthening right through joint replacement surgery and recovery using a team approach.
No registration is necessary for the lecture series.
