St. Vincent’s Medical Center to Host Heart Health Fair
In Honor of American Heart Month

BRIDGEPORT, CT, January 17, 2007 – St. Vincent’s Medical Center will hold a Heart Health Fair on Thursday, February 15th from 7:00am – 4:00pm in the main lobby. The event is open to the public at no cost and is in recognition of Heart Month.

The Fair will be a sizeable event, featuring eleven booths and offering health screenings, information, free parking, a free raffle and giveaways. Hosted by St. Vincent’s Regional Heart & Vascular Center, the cardiology division of the Medical Center, the event aims to spread awareness of cardiovascular disease risk factors, prevention and treatment options by teaching area residents to focus on overall health and wellness strategies, rather than simply changing habits after an unwanted diagnosis.

Attendees will be able to watch demonstrations of a 64-Slice Cardiac CT Scan at the Interventional Radiology booth, echocardiogram demonstrations at the Non-invasive Cardiology booth and the Cardiovascular Wellness booth will offer body fat analysis and blood pressure screenings free of charge, HDL cholesterol screenings for a $15 materials charge and a fasting-required lipid panel for a $20 materials charge.  At the Women’s Health booth, visitors will experience what a breast lump feels like on the breast cancer model.

Additional booths presenting at the fair are the Regina L. Cozza Women at Heart program, Heart Healthy Club, Cardiac Rehabilitation/CHF Clinic, Stroke Prevention, Primary Care/Internal Medicine, Pharmacy, and Heart Healthy Eating.

St. Vincent’s Regional Heart & Vascular Center
A recipient of HealthGrades 2007 Cardiac Care Excellence Award™ for outstanding clinical outcomes and quality cardiac care, St. Vincent's is ranked #1 in Fairfield County and in the top 10% in the nation for cardiac care, including cardiac interventions and the treatment of heart attack and heart failure.  It is the second consecutive year that St. Vincent’s has earned national distinction for “Five Star” interventions in the study.

St. Vincent’s emerged as a regional heart center in the 1980’s, when its angioplasty program became one of the busiest and most successful in New England.  Based on the success of its angioplasty and open heart surgery programs, St. Vincent’s has twice been named a “Top 100” heart hospital.

As one of the largest angioplasty programs in New England, St. Vincent’s introduced PAMI (primary angioplasty for myocardial infarction) program in 1995 that saved lives and set the standards in emergency care by assuring the availability of emergency angioplasty within one hour, 24-hours a day.  Because of the large volume of patients, the St. Vincent’s angioplasty program also has participated in many national heart drug trials including stents, lasers and medications used during the angioplasty procedure.
