BRIDGEPORT AND FAIRFIELD, CT, October 24, 2007 St. Vincent's Medical Center of Bridgeport is sponsoring a free Diabetes Symposium for the fourth consecutive year. The event is scheduled for Friday, November 16 at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. The Symposium will include programs for both professionals and patients and will provide the latest findings on the diagnosis and management of diabetes. The Patient Program will take place from 7:45am to 12:30pm in the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts and the Professional Program will take place from 8:30am to 12:30pm at the William H. Pitt Health & Recreation Center at Sacred Heart. Breakfast and refreshments will be provided.
The Patient Program will feature St. Vincent's Endocrinologist, Danielle Beneviv-Meskin, MD, who will speak on "Frequently Asked Questions About Diabetes," Diabetes Educator, Diane Selvaggi, RD, CDE, CD-N, who will speak on "Managing Diabetes Using Insulin & Long-lasting Insulin," as well as St. Vincent's Nutrition Counselor who will explain, "Eating Healthy Over the Holidays: Controlling Your Diabetes."
The Professional Program will feature the very latest innovations in the treatment of Diabetes with speakers Mitchell Lebowitz, MD, FACE of the Diabetes and Endocrine Center at CNY Family Care who will speak on "Insulin Pump Therapy: Intense Insulin Management for Good Glycemic Control," Tracy L. Breen, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, who will speak on the "Combination Oral Therapy for Good Glycemic Control," and William Cusick, MD, Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Medical Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, who will explain the "Management of the Pregnant Diabetic."
St. Vincent's President and CEO Susan L. Davis, RN, EdD, and Chief of Endocrinology Joseph Rosa, MD will give a welcome address. Dr. Rosa has directed the program along with Michael Herman, MD, Chairperson of the Department of Medicine at St. Vincent's.
Breakfast, refreshments and a question and answer session will be offered at both programs.
Continuing education credits will be provided to physician and nurse attendees of the program. The symposium has been approved by St. Vincent's Medical Center for a maximum of 3 credit hours in Category 1 toward the AMA PRA™ (CME credits). Nurses will receive 3 continuing education (CE) credits.
