BRIDGEPORT, CT, May 9, 2007 – St. Vincent's Medical Center is sponsoring a free talk open to the general public on "Lyme Disease: Signs, Symptoms and Treatment" as part of its Listen & Learn Lecture Series. The talk will take place on Thursday, May 17 from 11am-12pm at Spring Meadows, located at 6949 Main Street in Trumbull (across from St. Stephen's).
Featured speaker, Grace Kim, MD, will identify the physical signs and symptoms of Lyme Disease, the mechanisms and process of the disease and all of the currently available treatment options. She will also provide tips for protecting yourself and your family from the disease.
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection obtained from the bite of an infected tick. Individuals who are infected may (although not necessarily) exhibit a skin rash, swollen joints and flu-like symptoms, but many do not. Often, individuals do not realize that they are infected, because they did not get the rash, and the symptoms, such as fever, headache, joint swelling, stiff neck, chills, fatigue and muscle pain can be confused with other ailments.
Dr. Grace Kim earned both her Bachelors Degree and Medical Doctorate from Northwestern University. After completing her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent's Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident her final year, she completed a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Yale University School of Medicine. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Kim currently conducts a private practice specializing in Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology in Bridgeport and is on active staff at St. Vincent's Medical Center.
A question and answer session will follow the presentation, and light refreshments will be provided.
