Family Birthing and Maternity Services, St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport CT

Neonatology at St. Vincent’s is a subspecialty of pediatrics that provides medical care to infants born prematurely or to infants who become ill.

Whether a newborn is found to have a heart, pulmonary, digestive system or other issue, the special training neonatologists receive prepares them to recognize and treat such problems in even very tiny premature babies.

Here, our three St. Vincent’s board-certified neonatologists ensure that around-the-clock immediate specialist response is available in every instance of infant illness and distress.

At St. Vincent’s, parents can be confident that their babies receive the gentle but precise care and focused vigilance of the pediatricians, neonatologist, advance practice registered nurse (APRN) and neonatal physican assistants in our Family Birthing Center and level II special care nursary.

More than 30 practitioners are affiliated with the Family Birthing Center, including board certified obstetricians and certified nurse midwives. In addition, we have more than 50 pediatricians caring for our newborns, as well as board certified perinatologists and neonatologists on hand for pregnancies and births involving special needs.

St. Vincent’s has made significant advances in caring for expectant mothers, especially those women experiencing pregnancy complications.

The HANDS project

Handling All Neonatal Deliveries Safely, known as our HANDS project, promotes the delivery of safe and appropriate obstetrical care through team building, shared responsibility and ongoing healthcare education and clinical training for all Family Birthing Center healthcare providers.
