Nuclear Medicine Scans
A nuclear scan uses radioactive substances (as a tracer injected into the body) and a camera able to detect energy coming from the tracer that produces an image. The dosage injected is small.
During a nuclear scanning test, the patient lies still on a scanning table while the camera takes images. The scan itself usually takes from 20 to 45 minutes. A nuclear scan can help your physician diagnose diseases and conditions such as cancers, injuries and infections, but this type of scan can also show how organs like your heart and lungs are working.
