“No-Wait” Expert Medical Response
The Michael J. Daly Center for Emergency and Trauma Care at St. Vincent’s provides “No-Wait” expert medical response to critically injured and ill individuals who arrive at its location on the campus of St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
The Daly Center’s informal “No-Wait” moniker is earned through its simultaneous rapid-triage and registration process. Patients meet with the “First Nurse,” chosen for experience and clinical-judgment competence.
The nurse conducts an abbreviated triage and refers the patient to either the “First Team” (physician, nurse and tech) available in the triage area or, for more serious cases, to the Main ED. Rapid registration of the patient occurs concurrently with this triaging, helping to trim more time off the wait.
This process has resulted in an overall improvement in door-to-doctor wait time (moment-of-arrival to diagnosis and treatment) for all patients, which in turn ensures better outcomes. In all, this state-of-the-art facility has reduced emergency care wait times at St. Vincent’s from 93 minutes to 28 minutes.
For non-life threatening injuries or healthcare concerns
