Inpatient Care
The entire team at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, in Bridgeport, CT, knows that being a cardiac patient in a hospital carries with it a certain level of anxiety.
We aim to dramatically lessen that anxiety and ensure that your stay with us will be a safe and comfortable one. We have the expertise to handle and treat all cardiac conditions.
St. Vincent’s Operating Rooms
St. Vincent’s state-of-the-art operating rooms consolidate all major pre-and post-operative procedure areas. The ORs include eight pre-operative bays, 10 operating suites, and 12 Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) beds. The suite, incorporating the latest technology and design standards, also includes an endoscopy system for minimally invasive surgery, ample space, advanced lighting and modular storage built-ins.
Both the main OR and the Ambulatory Surgery Center, where same-day procedures are performed, feature a tracking system that improves communications between staff and family members, part of St. Vincent’s patient and family-centered approach to care.
Intensive Care Unit
Following surgery, the patient is typically moved to our Intensive Care Unit, or (ICU) for close monitoring St. Vincent's has created a special guide to help family members better understand what is happening and provide information about what you can do while your loved one is in any one of our Intensive Care Units (ICUs). please open and download the ICU Bedside Guide.
Cardiovascular unit/monitoring
Our modern cardiovascular unit (CVU) on the 8th floor features eight single rooms and the latest in monitoring and technology all in a cheerful setting. The CVU specializes in the care of patients post-open-heart surgery. Each room is equipped with a cardiac monitoring system that continuously feeds information to monitors at the nurses’ station.
6 North Unit specializes in the care of patients following angioplasty. The unit features five semi-private rooms and 15 single rooms, all equipped with a cardiac monitoring system that feeds information to monitors at the nurses station and hallway monitors.
6 South Unit is a 31-bed adult medical/surgical cardiac ”step-down” unit with complete telemetry monitoring. The unit, consisting of 10 semi-private rooms and 10 private rooms, provides safe, appropriate and effective care to patients who are in varying stages of recuperation and rehabilitation from diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical cardiac interventions.
The Telemetry Unit monitors the cardiac activity of patients with heart problems not just in the Cardiovascular Unit, but throughout the floors of the hospital on a 24/7 basis.
Staff
Physicians, nurses and therapists are all specialists with advanced credentials in caring for cardiac patients so you can rest easy and concentrate on getting well. In fact, our nurses and staff members implement special cardiac techniques and treatments to help patients receive the best possible care after heart surgery and procedures.
Multi-disciplinary approach
Our medical professionals engage in a multi-disciplinary approach so you know that all facets of your heart treatment will be in expert hands. St. Vincent’s focuses on constantly strengthening its safety practices, technology, healing environment and communication between staff and patients and their families, so important to the outstanding outcomes that St. Vincent’s prides itself on.
A team comprised of the cardiovascular surgeon, physician’s assistant, nurse and case manager visit patients every morning together to ensure continuity of care. Their skill and compassion make your recovery easier, so you can get back to your busy life.
Safety
St. Vincent’s follows national and state safety protocols and also adheres to stricter guidelines unique to the Medical Center. We go above and beyond standard policies because your safety is our number one priority, instituting programs such as the Ruby Slippers Fall Prevention Program, and the SmartMoves safe patient transfer program.The entire system is participating in a "High Reliability" safety training.
