Teamwork
St. Vincent’s Regional Heart & Vascular Center and Department of Cardiovascular Medicine define teamwork as taking a multidisciplinary approach to achieve optimum outcomes for patients in our care. The practice of cardiology requires hard work, professional expertise, laser focus and the willingness of all medical staff to pull together toward a common purpose. This means:
- Team members work in complete synch with one another to provide sensitive, humane, effective care to the patient.
- Physicians and nurses are in constant communication with each other on the patient’s status and needs. They are coordinated by the director of cardiovascular nursing who supervises the inpatient unit and works closely with the chairman of cardiovascular medicine to ensure that team members are “on the same page.”
- Our social workers, case managers, physical therapists, pharmacists and other members of the healthcare team, as well as the patient’s family, are critically important for the valuable perspectives they provide on the patient.
- Finally, all support staff from supervisors to administrators to housekeeping are considered by the department to be key to ensuring that, as our patient, you or your loved one will have a positive experience at St. Vincent’s.
