Our unique program is designed to give cancer patients and survivors the tools and guidance they need to help achieve their goals and optimize their health.
With the goal of helping cancer patients and their families, St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound helps fund the Integrative Survivorship Center. Survivorship at St. Vincent’s is centered on the philosophy of treating the whole person – mind, body and spirit – not just the cancer, and offers a broad range of support programs. Cancer survivors meet with an oncology clinical nurse specialist to create individualized plans for long-term wellness.
Patients will be provided with education and best practices in survivorship and recommendations for lifestyle changes.
The center offers many programs and groups for cancer survivors:
- Support groups
- Nutritional counseling
- Cooking classes
- Psychosocial support
- Exercise programs (including yoga and aquatherapy)
- Educational lectures
- Hypnotherapy
- Homeopathic and herbal medicine
- Meditation
- Spa therapies such as massage
By screening for long-term health and psychosocial effects from the disease and subsequent treatments, St. Vincent’s Integrative Survivorship Center hopes to educate and empower survivors to optimize their health, quality of life and longevity.
