(Pictured left) Oncology Leadership, 2012-2013
This has been a year marked with excitement and sadness. We experienced tremendous success in multiple areas, and yet, we suffered the premature loss of a beloved physician and department leader.
Dr. Kenneth Dressler, division chief of hematology/oncology was sadly taken from us on July 28th, 2012. Dr. Dressler obtained privileges at St. Vincent's medical Center in January 1996 and was instrumental in the development and success of the department of oncology and the Elizabeth M. Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care. He was not only a highly skilled medical oncologist, but a great man. We keep Ken and his family constantly in our thoughts and prayers. He is sorely missed.
In March 2012, the department of oncology was most excited when Dr. Stuart Marcus, senior vice president, chief medical officer and chairman of the department of oncology was named the new president of St. Vincent's Medical Center. Highlights of his tenure as chairman included the successful opening of the Cancer Center, the establishment of oncology as a distinct medical staff department, and the creation of the Lebo-DeSantie Center for Liver and Pancreatic Disease.
This comprehensive 2012 Oncology Annual Report also highlights our continued focus on:
Screening and prevention
Low Dose (CT) Scan screening for lung cancer
High Risk Women's Clinic
Navigator programs
