In order to ensure the best outcomes possible for patients, St. Vincent’s Stroke Center is committed to providing timely, advanced and safe care for stroke patients. Our accolades speak for themselves:
St. Vincent’s received its first State of Connecticut designation as a Primary Stroke Center in January 2009. In order to achieve this status, the hospital underwent a rigorous inspection and demonstrated the capacity to meet criteria adapted from the American Stroke Association (ASA) practice standards and recommendations from the Brain Attack Coalition (BCA). These protocols help ensure rapid diagnostic evaluation and treatment of stroke patients.
St. Vincent’s was one of the first hospitals in Connecticut to be certified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations in 2006. The hospital has maintained that advanced certification since. The Joint Commission’s “Gold Seal of Approval” recognizes St. Vincent’s ability to provide the highest standard of stroke care with clot-busting medications and the latest treatments, improving stroke patients’ chances of recovery.
Further illustrating the quality of the stroke program at St. Vincent’s, the Stroke Center was presented with the Gold Performance Achievement Award by the American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines – Stroke (GWTG-Stroke) program. To receive this award, a program must demonstrate at least 85% adherence in the GWTG – Stroke key measure for 24 consecutive months or more.
