The SWIM Center for Cancer Care

Cancer Committee / Tumor Registry

Cancer Committee - Tumor Registrars

The cancer committee is accountable for leading the cancer program to ensure that the hospital provides the full scope of cancer care.  It sets the direction for the cancer program activities through annual goals that serve as the basis for cancer program evaluation.  Cancer care requires a multidisciplinary approach and encompasses numerous physician and non-physician professionals and the cancer committee membership is reflective of this.

The cancer committee is responsible for:

  • Ensuring the quality of cancer registry data.    The cancer registry is responsible for identifying new cancer cases that have been diagnosed and/or treated at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.  All diagnosed cases of cancer are also reportable to the Connecticut Tumor Registry, part of the Connecticut Department of Public Health as well as the National Cancer Data Base to facilitate education of patients and health professionals by identifying cancer trends, treatment and outcomes on a statewide and national basis.

  • Establishing and maintaining the weekly Cancer Conference.  This conference is an essential forum to provide multidisciplinary consultative services for patients, as well as to offer education to physicians and allied health professionals.

  • Analyzing patient outcomes and disseminating the results of this analysis.  Using the Tumor Registry data, an in-depth analysis of a cancer site including diagnostic evaluation, treatment modalities, prognostic factors, and survival data are compared to national benchmarks.
