Medical Center Wins Wellness Award
The Business Council of Fairfield County recognized St. Vincent’s Medical Center as a GOLD winner of the 2012 Healthy Workplace Award for our successful efforts to promote employee health and wellness. Twenty seven businesses and non-profits were celebrated for creating a healthy work environment for their employees at the Healthy Workplaces Best Practices Award Ceremony held on February 14th at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel.
The application for this award was completed in partnership by Human Resources and Employee Occupational Health and Wellness. The award criteria required extensive inter-department qualifications. “Many individuals and departments are responsible for making the St. Vincent’s Wellness program a success,” said Joanne Velardi, director of occupational health, wellness and rehabilitative services. “We would like to recognize the support and commitment of senior leadership and the many departments including Food and Nutrition, Security and Environmental Services, which have adopted changes which contribute to our healthy workplace.”
Worksite wellness at St. Vincent’s was implemented in 2006. The Wellness Committee focuses on collaborating with interdisciplinary departments to offer a multidimensional approach in raising awareness of a healthy workplace. Such initiatives include the Employee Assistance Program, smoke free campus, Healing Touch, fried-free-food Fridays and the annual pedometer challenge. The primary focus has been to expand the awareness of wellness, as it relates to work-life balance and its role universally in the environment. St. Vincent’s Health Services is committed to supporting associate engagement in making healthy lifestyle choices and making resources available to promote successful outcomes.
