St. Vincent's Medical Center and Westfield Trumbull Co-sponsored Successful Heart Fair

St. Vincent's Heart Health Fair 2012Hundreds of area residents visited the St. Vincent's Medical Center’s 6th  Annual Heart Health Fair at Westfield Trumbull this past Saturday, February 11th.  The event represented a joint effort between St. Vincent’s and Westfield Trumbull to increase community wellness in recognition of Heart Month.

St. Vincent's President/CEO Susan L. Davis, RN, EdD, local weight loss guru Kim Bensen, and Dr. Kathleen Harper, Director of Women at Heart and cardiologist at St. Vincent’s, kicked off the event with a group of enthusiastic employees and visitors for a one mile walk around the shopping center.  Children and adults alike experienced the sights and sounds of the heart by walking through a giant life-size medical inflatable of this vital organ.  Visitors energetically clapped their hands as dancers from Notre Dame High School in Fairfield staged an exciting flash dance mob routine.

Representatives from the Regina L. Cozza Women at Heart program at St. Vincent’s were on hand to illustrate how heart disease in women differs from patterns in men.  Hosted by the cardiology division of the Medical Center, the event spread awareness of cardiovascular disease risk factors, prevention and treatment options by teaching area residents to focus on overall health and wellness strategies, rather than simply changing habits after an unwanted diagnosis.
