Based on the latest Joint Commission benchmarks as of February 2008.
Because of the complexity of the collection of this data, as well as tallying the results and creating comparisons to other hospitals nationally, the information reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the The Joint Commission (TJC) reflects a hospital's performance in these areas seen six months to one year ago. The following charts show St. Vincent's performance as reported to TJC, as well as our more recent performance, that we constantly monitor, so that we may provide the best care possible to our patients.
Many government and healthcare agencies have begun to report information to the public on how hospitals are caring for patients with certain medical conditions. Most notably, TJC and CMS have requested that hospitals collect and provide information on how they treat patients with heart attacks, congestive heart failure and pneumonia. Connecticut was the first state to achieve 100% participation by its hospitals nationally in this voluntary program, and St. Vincent's was one of the first participating hospitals in the state. Each medical condition has a number of treatment points that are considered highly recommended for appropriate patients, so that they have the best outcome possible during their hospital stay.
