Dr. Gerard is a residency-trained and board-certified emergency medicine physician. Most recently, he served as vice president for medical affairs at TeamHealth Midsouth in Virginia. Prior to that post, he served as the emergency department medical director at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia and earlier, at Retreat Hospital in Richmond.
After earning his medical degree from Albany Medical College, Dr. Gerard completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, where he has also was a member of the Ethics Committee, and has served as team captain for the 911 Legislative Network.Holding certification as a physician executive with the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE), Dr. Gerard has also won an award of academic achievement from the ACPE. He is a member of many professional and scientific societies including the American Medical Informatics Association. Dr. Gerard has delivered presentations nationally and has published in his field.
