While the new wing will create opportunity for expanded and enhanced services, particularly in Oncology and Emergency, it will also have an enormous effect on the rest of the hospital's services.
The main entrance of St. Vincent's will be completely reorganized to offer greater convenience for patients and visitors to the Medical Center, who currently need to negotiate through various areas, hallways, and corridors to locate particular services. With the reorganization, patients will enter the hospital and be greeted by a spacious lobby featuring a mall-like design. Here, they will find immediate access to Ambulatory Services, Cardiology/the Regional Heart and Vascular Center, the Imaging Center, and the Emergency Department.
At one time, a visit to St. Vincent's might have inspired trepidation concerning the elaborate road map of travel throughout the facility. The construction of the new wing will result in a model lobby/entrance that will completely erase those fears and simplify wayfinding thus minimizing the anxiety associated with the experience.
