Mitchell Fogel

Mitchell A. Fogel, MD, FACP, is chairman and clinical vice president of the Department of Medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Dr. Fogel serves as chief academic officer for St. Vincent’s Health Services, and is chairman of medicine at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.

He formerly served as Chief of the Division of Nephrology and Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. A member of the medical staff at St. Vincent’s since 1990, Dr. Fogel continues to practice as a nephrologist in the Bridgeport community. Dr. Fogel is board certified in nephrology, internal medicine, and medical management.

As the Designated Institutional Officer for Graduate Medical Education at St. Vincent’s, Dr. Fogel is responsible for the oversight of residency, medical student, and for continuing medical education programs. Under his leadership, our Graduate Medical Education programs have not only reached full compliance but have excelled, with our Internal Medicine program recently achieving full accreditation with commendation for a 10-year cycle. 

Dr. Fogel was instrumental in securing our partnership with the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine as its primary clinical teaching site. His leadership helps St. Vincent’s assure the future of medical education with our educational partners and fulfill our vision of interdisciplinary education.

After earning his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University and his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he completed his internship, residency and a fellowship in Nephrology at Boston University Medical Center.  

Dr. Fogel is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology, the Renal Physicians Association, the American College of Physician Executives, and the Connecticut State Medical Society, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.  In addition to his role at Quinnipiac’s Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine, Dr. Fogel has had medical school faculty appointments at Boston University, New York Medical College, the Colombia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

In 2008 Dr. Fogel received the St. Vincent de Paul Physician Mission Award as the Physician of the Year for his ability to foster teamwork among physicians and for his knowledge, dedication and advocacy on behalf of patients and staff.
