Frank Illuzzi, MD, FACEP

Vice President and Chairperson,
Emergency Department

Dr. Frank Illuzzi is vice president and chair of Emergency Services at St. Vincent's Medical Center.  He has been instrumental in achieving a dramatic turn-around performance in safety, quality, efficiency and patient experience in the Emergency Department over the last several years.

A TeamSTEPPS and High Reliability trainer, and the chairman of the Flu/Pandemic H1N1 committee, Dr. Illuzzi completed a year-long American Hospital Association patient safety leadership fellowship program in 2009. In addition to his work in quality and safety, he serves on the board of directors for the St. Vincent's Multispecialty Group.

A graduate of Notre Dame University with a bachelor of science degree, Dr. Illuzzi earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1998. After a transitional internship at New York Hospital, he performed his Emergency Medicine residency training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he served as chief resident.

An assistant clinical professor of emergency medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Dr. Illuzzi is a fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is on the board of the Connecticut Chapter of Emergency Physicians, is a member of the Emergency Medicine Residents Association and the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, and holds a number of life support certifications.

Dr. Illuzzi is the co-director and site coordinator for the Research Associates Program, and developed and implemented a community-outreach-focused clinical research program in the ED. He serves on numerous hospital committees and has published in his field.
