Christopher Iannuzzi, MD
Oncology Department Chair, St. Vincent’s Medical Center
Dr. Iannuzzi has been at St. Vincent’s since 2002. As Vice-Chairman, Dr. Iannuzzi has provided strong leadership and direction in moving our cancer program forward. His reputation for clinical excellence in patient care and the respect he receives from the medical and hospital staff make him an ideal chairman. Since the Department of Oncology was established, there has been tremendous growth in the cancer services at St. Vincent’s.
To date, there have been approximately 5,000 new analytic cancer cases entered into St. Vincent’s tumor registry, and we have seen significant growth in head and neck, gastrointestinal, gynecologic and central nervous system malignancies. Multidisciplinary programs have been established in Breast, Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary, Head and Neck, Thoracic and Neurologic Oncology. The clinical trials program has significantly expanded as well. New programs in robotic surgery, genetic testing and stereotactic radio body and brain surgery have been initiated.
In addition, St. Vincent’s has achieved accreditation with commendation by the Commission on Cancer twice over this time period and Dr. Iannuzzi's team sucessfully moved into the Elizabeth M. Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care, where patients can enjoy the benefits of receiving compassionate high quality care in a healing environment.
Dr. Iannuzzi received his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, completed his internship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School and returned to Mount Sinai to complete his training in Radiation Oncology. He is board-certified in Radiation Oncology. At St. Vincent’s Medical Center, he has served as division chief of Radiation Oncology since 2002 and vice chairman of the Department of Oncology since June 2009. He has also served as the Cancer Liaison Physician to the Commission on Cancer and is the current chairperson of the St. Vincent’s Cancer Committee. He was the recipient of the American Cancer Society Star of Hope Award in 2006 recognizing his skill and compassion in caring for cancer patients. His clinical expertise encompasses all aspects of radiation oncology, and he has special interest in prostate cancer therapy.
